Early in the morning, depart for Paro by Druk Air (Royal Bhutan Airline). Perhaps during the clear weather, magnificent views of the world’s highest Himalayan snowcapped peaks gives way to the lush green Paro valley as you land into a very small airport, the only airport in Bhutan.After immigration and customs formalities, meet with local representative then depart for Kichu Lhakhang - 1 of 108 monasteries built on subdued demon’s body in a day by Tibetan King Songtsen Gempo with his miracle. The oldest monastery in Bhutan, here the guest travelers will have a cleansing ceremony to get rid of impurities and to gain the good merits and luck to have a successful spiritual holiday trip in the land of happiness - Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Also, guest travelers can lit butter lamp, make prayer offerings and get the blessing. Thereafter, drive to the capital valley of Bhutan, Thimphu that is 65 kilometers drives. Upon arrival in the capital valley, visit the National Memorial Stupa - erected in the memory of beloved late His Majesty the 3rd Dragon King of Bhutan for “Kora” circular pilgrimage. After lunch, visit traditional medicine centre, Bhutanese arts and crafts institute, national library house and then drive to the viewpoint of Bhutanese parliamentarian house and Tashichodzong - capital fortress which serves as the royal office of His Majesty King, Prime Minister, Cabinet Ministers, national government offices, the summer residence of chief abbot and central monastic body of Bhutan, Zilukha Nunnery - one of last surviving nunnery in Kingdom, here guests travelers will sit with nuns and make prayers for world peace and happiness. After breakfast drive toward north of Thimphu valley to Dechenchoeling passing the viewpoint of the Her Majesty Queen Mother’s Palace to visit the Pangri Zampa monastery - 17th century buildings that were once the home of the Shabdrung Rinpoche - temporal leader of Bhutan during 17th century and now the houses of monastic astrologer training institute for cleansing ceremony to get rid of impurities and to gain the good merits and luck to have a successful holiday trip in the land of happiness - Himalayan Kingdom of Bhutan. Also, meet with the Bhutanese astrologers. If the visitors are interested in astrology reading can be arranged here. Thereafter, drive till the viewpoint of the Tango/Cheri monastery. Tango monastery serves as the higher-level monastic education learning institute and the Cheri Monastery serves as the meditation center for monastic body and monks of Bhutan. Drive back to the capital city for lunch and after the lunch visit textile museum and handicrafts, emporiums to see the wide range of Bhutanese handicraft products including the splendid paintings and exquisitely woven textiles, Bhutanese handmade paper factory, downtown Zangdhopelri monastery and leisure walk in the archery field. By late afternoon, drive to Kuenselphodrang to visit the world largest Buddha statue erected for world peace and happiness. The dinner will be hosted in a traditional farmhouse to taste local cuisines and to experience the (Dho-Tso) hot stone bath. Overnight at same hotel. | |
Day 4 | Thimphu - Wangduephodrang – Phobjikha Valley |
After breakfast gets the checkout from hotel and a dramatic drive following the course of the Thimphu Chu (river) onto the high mountain pass of Dochu La (3,050m). Sights on the way include one of Bhutan first fortress-monastery, the 17th century Simtokha Dzong. On the clear days, towering Himalayan snowcapped peaks are clearly visible and the pass beautified with 108 stupas, erected by the Royal Queens of Bhutan. The onward journey en-route Wangduephodrang valley carrying on the highway follows the scenic Dang Chu (river) climbing through the forests of bamboo and oak a small side road splinters off to the hidden glacial Phobjika valley - a winter residing valley for black-necked cranes and summer residing village for nomad of the region viewing the black mountain range. Once in the valley, drive for explore the quaint Phobjikha village and farmhouses, Gangtey monastery - seat for His Eminence Gantey Trulku - the body reincarnation of treasure discover Terton Pema Lingpa and this is the biggest Nyingmapa monastery in Bhutan, black-necked cranes center to watch the mysterious cranes migrants from the Tibetan plateau during frozen winter months. Perhaps in the evening time, if time permits experience the village hike/walk. Dinner and overnight stay in a hotel in the glacial Phobjikha valley. | |
Day 5 | Phobjikha - Punakha |
As usual, after breakfast check-out from hotel and start driving to the ancient capital valley of Bhutan, Punakha. On the way, drive to Pele-La pass (3,390m), the pass lies between western and central Bhutan and also, this pass is the hub for wild rhododendrons and other floras. Reaching Lobesa village, visit the monastery of fertility built by Tibetan saint called Lam Drukpa Kinley, often called divine madman. Lunch will be served at chimi lhakang cafeteria where you will get real Bhutanese dishes. Thereafter drive to Kabesa village to view another sacred stupa - Khamsum Yuelley Namgyal recently erected by the Royal Queens of Bhutan passing by Phuntsho Perli and other winter royal palaces. On the way back visit magnificent Punakha Dzong (fortress) the winter residence of the chief abbot and central monastic body of Bhutan and it also serves as the administrative headquarters for the Punakha region. Dinner and overnight halt in a hotel in the ancient capital valley. | |
Day 6 | Punakha - Paro |
After breakfast check-out from hotel and drives to the gateway valley of Bhutan, Paro en-route the capital valley. Upon arrival in the capital valley, visit traditional medicine center, Bhutanese arts and crafts institute, national library house and stop for lunch. After lunch continues onward journey to Paro valley. Reaching the valley, visits the National Museum - housed in the Ta Dzong (watchtower) to explore an intriguing collection of artifacts provide a wonderful introduction to the rich culture and heritage of the Kingdom. Just a short walk downhill lays the dominating Paro Dzong (fortress) - a fine example of Bhutanese historic architecture, crosses the Nyamai Zampa - a traditional cantilever bridge and guests are then driven to the town temple, built in 1525, to view ancient wall paintings. Thereafter, drive to visit Kichu Lhakhang - 1 of 108 monasteries built on subdued demon’s body in a day by Tibetan King Songtsen Gempo with his miracle. Day 7 | Tiger Nest Monastery |
After having early breakfast drive to experience spiritual day hike to mystical Tiger Nest, which is more than 2 hours uphill hike. Taktsang Monastery is the most famous and sacred monastery in Bhutan, perched on the side of a cliff 900m above the floor of the Paro valley. The Taktshang means ‘tiger nest’ and named because Guru Rinpoche is said to have flown to the site of the monastery on the back of a flaming tigress. He then meditated in a cave here for three months. The Penlop of Paro - Desi Tenzin Rabye built the main Lhakhang in 1684 around Guru Rinpoche’s meditation cave. People all over world walk here for pilgrimage and blessing. After the spiritual hike, if time permits, drive to Balakha village to visit ruined Drukgyel Dzong - a fortress built by Shabdrung Rinpoche in 1646 to commemorate his victory over the Tibetan invaders. On a clear day, can see the splendid view of Mountain Jhomolhari (7,321m). Thereafter, drive back to Paro for a leisure walk in street. The farewell dinner and overnight halt in the same hotel in Paro valley. | |
